The marathon itself will be Saturday, March 4 beginning at 6:30 a.m. The starting point is just south of the intersection of Grissom Parkway and 21st Ave. N, Myrtle Beach, SC. The finish line will be in the parking lot of Field at Pelicans Ballpark. Marathon participants must complete the course in 7 hours. Maps of the course will be available at the Runner’s Expo on Thursday night.   Registration has opened and you can save a lot by registering early! Register by July 15 and the following rates apply: Full Marathon $80, Half Marathon $70, Marathon Team Relay $105, Friday Night 5K $20, and Family Fun Run $15. You can conveniently register online. There will be a $25 charge for all mail in registrations.   The Myrtle Beach Marathon is a flat, oceanfront course that is famous for new PR's and qualifying times for races like the Boston Marathon. This marathon is a popular event that is a great idea for anyone wanting to improve their fitness and challenge their self.   The HTC Runner’s Expo will be held Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 5-9 p.m. at the new Myrtle Beach Sports Center, 21st Ave. N & Oak St., Myrtle Beach. The Expo is free and open to the public. Parking at the sports center is $5 per vehicle. Runners will be able to pick up their race bibs, runner shirts, as well as visit sponsor and vendor booths in the exhibition area. Official marathon merchandise will also be available for purchase.   The marathon originally emerged from five Myrtle Beach residents' participation in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Team in Training" (TNT) program. As it turned from a day into a Marathon weekend, more events were added as was support for additional charities. Today, each Marathon event supports one or more charities including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of South Carolina (since its first event in 1998), the Coastal South Carolina Chapter of the American Red Cross, and Horry County Schools.   At the same time you register for the Myrtle Beach Marathon it’s a good idea to secure your lodging.
